Ooooh this one attracts a lot of hate for a fun and easy to sing song. I mean, it's better than "Happy Birthday", no?
I'm sure I can dig up a tape or two of Styx in my recordings. Grand Illusion pops in my memory, and maybe Equinox. No tape machines, tho, maybe just as well. I remember this all over rock radio. I gave it a 7 for the nostalgia.
6.6? Criminally low. This song is AWESOME and the video is one of the cheesiest, yet greatest of all time.

Video - Too Much Time On My Hands
The title of this album (and the cover) must have been inspired by
"Phantom Of the Paradise" -- one of the greatest movies of all time.

Too bad the music was not inspired from the movie's soundtrack...
I had to PSD this !

this is such a banger, how is it a 6.6?!

So glad to hear this on RP. I was 17 when this came. I loved their music pre-Mr. Roboto!
My first arena concert at 13 years old. And look how I turned out!!

Hold on! Were you that cool in 1981 or are you projecting your current cool self on the maybe not-so-cool 1981 version of you?
Yup, as expected, the elitists come out with torches to protest bands like Styx being played.
1982. School bus. Class trip. This song on a boom box. Classmates singing with gusto, "And I've given up home On the afternoon soaps And a BOTTLE OF COLD BREW."

17-year-olds.

Yikes!

I once saw this on American Bandstand and people were dancing to it.

I almost puked.  And I quit listening to this band.

That's the most pearl-clutching thing I've ever read.
Tommy Shaw Styx songs > Dennis DeYoung Styx songs. I will die on this hill.
(except maybe Mr. Roboto, because that song still slaps in the silliest possible way)
Just hanging out with my friend on his birthday and listening to Radio Paradise. Sun is shining, beers are flowing. Most things in life are free. Cheers!

If ya gotta play something from Styx, try songs from their first 2 or 3 albums.  The ones recorded on the Wooden Nickel label.

Try the song Suite Madame Blue.

Thanks, RP. I know why.
Styx were lyrically slightly differentiated from the other, overplayed 80’s pseudo-rock bands (Boston, Journey) and thereby have a bit more longevity.  This is fun for the occasional listen.

I still have the LPs…

I said *occasional* listen.
That’s twice in two weeks now...

Mommy, make it stop!!!

Show us on this doll where STYX band hurt you!........

This kind of says it all.
If there was a soundtrack to my youth, this would be on it. Most excellent!

Exactly. Same problem with another recent RP spin: Foreigner.
Gag, double gag!  Foreigner was the first concert I went to in my own as a high school student, and it was so awful that I immediately quit listening to Foreigner.
I listened to this band incessantly during high school. Still do on occasion. Nice to hear it here.
lol

Correct.

Edit: although by 1981 they'd gotten the message loud and clear and doubled down. Deodoodydato, Mister Roboto. Rasputin's in Berkeley had a big stack of that album by the front door with a sign "just take one and get out" and by the end of the day some of them were gone.

Yes, Styx!!!

Styx, No!!!
This takes me way back. I got this album at the Calgary Stampede (I do not remember why or how). Not my favourite Styx tune, but undeniably catchy.
I've never been a big Styx fan, but this is perfect for a bit of fun!
If we are going to go here, I would much prefer a track or two from Grand Illusion (title track for example), or possibly Cornerstone. And, not sure I need it at all. ;)
Yes, Styx!!!
