Show me, show me, show me how you do that trick
The one that makes me scream she said
The one that makes me laugh she said
Threw her arms around my neck
Show me how you do it and I'll promise you
I'll promise that I'll run away with you, I'll run away with you

Spinning on that dizzy edge
Kissed her face and kissed her head
Dreamed of all the different ways, I had to make her glow
Why are you so far away she said
Why don't you ever know that I'm in love with you?
That I'm in love with you?

You, soft and only, you lost and lonely
You, strange as angels
Dancing in the deepest oceans
Twisting in the water
You're just like a dream
You're just like a dream

Daylight licked me into shape
I must have been asleep for days
And moving lips to breathe her name
I opened up my eyes
And found myself alone, alone, alone above a raging sea
That stole the only girl I loved and drowned her deep inside of me

You soft and only
You lost and lonely
You just like heaven

Classic example of why I come to RP!
Refreshing, different. Long live Radio Paradise!
Wow... Love it!!
I think Robert Smith might just approve.
Uhh, there's none of the Cure's trademark angst. which makes me realise that was what the Cure were all about. Just sounds a bit silly in this cover.
Another crappy cover!!  Stop!!!!!!!

Just because it's different doesn't mean it's good. This is garbage.

Explain. “I’m a damn fool” is not an explanation.

💯

i’m fine with it!
but, the cure was actually one of the happier bands…

The first time I hard this I thought "WTF", this is gonna be gross, but then I was really enjoying the banjo, then I was thinkin "Hey, this is actually OK", and by the end I was really enjoying it. I was Not "Dancin' like a bow-legged Muleskinner in my Hotel Room'", but my toes were tappin pretty good.
Sometimes, as we all know the covers of great songs are great on their own:
Joe Cocker-I Get by with a Lttle Help from My Friends
Jimi- All Along the Watchtower
Everyone-Hallelujeah (Jeff Buckley #1)
Jose Feliciano-Light My Fire
Johnny Cash - Hurt
Van Halen- Ice Cream Man
Whitney Houston-I will Always Love You
Talking Heads - Take me to the River
Eva Cassidy - Fields of Gold
(My Fave) Shawn Colvin - One Cool Remove (A Greg Brown song)

I don't think this Cure cover is an all-time great, but I enjoy it as much as the original.
It's all good music folks,
And it's all good on RP!

This is fucking awesome! An instant 8.

Same for me.  Lots of great comments, but this sort of sums it up!
As other comments say, this version does demonstrate that a great song is always a great song, but for me it is too throwaway and loses the passion of the original.
I feel it truly is one of the tests of a great song...can it be played in different styles/genres by different artists and still stand tall...this tune passes the test
Like this? Check out Hayseed Dixie tongue-in-cheek covers of AC/DC
A bluegrass version of a Cure song?  Sure why not.
Angst & Passion, bluegrass style. I love it!  8
Liking this, reckon slow it down a notch and Mr Smith's vocal would suit the bluegrass feel
superb performance

Peppy indeed.  How many bluegrass songs are in a minor key, or have slow tempo?  Maybe none.

There are some slow ones. They're mostly murder ballads.

I love the Cure and cant stand the banjo. But this cover is so great that I actually like the banjo in it.
Nope definitely not most excellent, it's outstanding!

This actually works.  It's a Cure song with an upbeat message, and bluegrass is inherently peppy stuff.  I'm likin' it.

oh, yes. i'm with you! that version is awesome. and i do love the Wagon. i'd like to hear Muck, Out There and (my favorite), Start Choppin'. it's a bit strange that Dinosaur Jr isn't played much on RP.

Absolutely correct!  Bill?  What say you?

OMG that's hilarious!  Thanks for the laugh.
No, it doesn't work for me. Nothing with a banjo in it can ever sound acceptable to me, but a Cure classic....no thanks.

The Dinosaur Jr version of this is one of the best songs ever. FACT.

Need some Dinosaur on here. The Wagon would be right up Bill's street.

This is such a very, very, good cover!
I thinks this opens the door for RP to bring on some Hayseed Dixie for some bluegrass coveralls of  AC/DC and others. Skeeew!

Sometimes it's better to just play the original and leave the cover alone.

I am enjoying this way too much. Hard not to sing along. So fun.
If you like this (and I do!), check out the Gourds cover of Gin and Juice by Snoop Dogg!

So...mission accomplished?

(Like the old joke:
Masochist: "Whip me, spank me, hurt me!"
Sadist: "No.")
Prefer Richard Cheese's cover, myself.

Yes! Love that RP continues to branch out and expand the  universe of music  you're playing. I know not everyone loves bluegrass as much as myself but how can one not appreciate this cover?

Oh dear.... an abomination of a cover. Putting a banjo to a Cure song is so horribly horribly wrong.....

Borrowed from somewhere else on RP:

"Maybe you just need to loosen the waistband on your chonies."
This is fucking awesome! An instant 8.
I hear this and I'm reminded of a comment on here about the Ben L'Oncle Soul cover of Seven Nation Army. It said (paraphrasing), if you were never aware this was a cover, you could make the mistake of thinking this was the original.

I like this better than the original myself.

Prefer Richard Cheese's version to this.

What a sad comment

Or it may just be humour?

Perfect example of a cover that makes some people instantly close their minds to anything different. This is a great toe tapping version. Would never had heard it any place else. Thanks RP!
I immediately knew the tune and cringed, but, in the end, it was a lovely cover.

This happens from time to time. A friday afternoon  winding down for the weekend and RP unearths something mindblowing.

Spookily I am just de-duping a collection of Cure songs as this came on... Different yet familiar, lacking the bite.

AWESOME!
Beautiful mash up....!  How could you not like an epic 80's tune done up by epic 'grassers !?!?!?!?
