Delicious textures, all cool and groovy, purring together with funky syncopations and sensual sinuosity. Still love it; glad I got to see 'em
You nailed it, cut and dried.
You could write about poop and make it sound sweet.
I have been listening to MM&W since RP introduced me. Never heard a bad song,
I Agree! Same here! Thanx RP!
I saw these guys long ago in Redbank NJ at a nice venue. And not knowing much about their following - I though I would dress nicely. Man, it was a bunch of hippies, which is fine by me - I have my hippie roots. I just wished I had worn a different outfit, lol. It's great hearing them now after so long. RP keeps bringing back old sounds I forgot about. Thank you!

I Agree!! Completely! These guys really kick it!!
Nice.... BUT if I start seeing guys wearing a black beret, smoking cigarettes with ash cupped in the palm, spouting weird free-verse words they call "poetry"....and drinking gallons of bad coffee in small cups....
I'm going to go find the crack in the space-time warp/weft and blow it up...
Good music... But the "Beat" garbage was nothing to bring back... The past is a good guide...select the best and leave the rest...
Still... Going to dig out my Ahmad Jamal and Cannonball Ackerly when I get home... Open a nice bottle of red and relax...
Good music needs space to be appreciated... When we get too many good/great artists spurring each other on it's hard to pay attention to the ones who are in it for the beauty of their craft because those in it for the money are hogging all the attention bandwidth....
Like to see RP bring artists from around the world... each arrives with a listener reckkie and an offering... Nice way to meet new artists... I've bought over 600 CDs since I began listening to RP.... and I can see a huge audio system retrofit approaching the "necessary" line... Worse ways to spend money... worse hobbies-habits...
So, Thanks Bill and crew... Thank you listeners for bringing your treasures...
This is a good business model and social system... Please keep it going... It's a big world and there are many wonderful people, music, foods, and tales being told...
ahhh... finally, an enlightened one. interesting and entertaining. educated and an opinionated. thanks.
This drummer literally knows one lick and one fill that he uses for every single song.
An, YOU can do better? ...eh? Where do we find YOUR music?

Maybe try listening beyond about ten seconds. There's some seriously good drumming on this song.

Great post, humorous but on point. One quibble: it's Cannonball Adderley.
Have you been injured in a car accident? Call Medeski Martin and Wood today!
LOL, or this guy?
Only in 'Murica...
(And I can picture Linus plunking the ivories in my convoluted mind to add to the coolness.)
Naah, you just have to sit back and let it wash over you
I think you mean "Mama Cat"

The Mellotron is one of the coolest instruments ever invented.
That's "Cannibal" Adderly, btw...His Work Song is covered by Butterfield
on the East-West album...

You got better ones? ;-)
Actually, I have never gotten improvised comedy at all. I always feel a little sorry for those guys. It's just not funny. I was reading David Byrne's recent book on music (How Music Works, highly not recommended)...he said something interesting about improvisation - it was used by Jazz artists simply to stretch out live sessions. It's basically about more time for dancing and giving the paying customers more of the same. It was never meant to be "genius".
I definitely see your point re. jazz, but for me one of the best things about live music/comedy IS the improvisation. I also love it when you see it (as seems to happen more often these days) on TV comedies. I would draw the line, however, at student improv theatre, which is unacceptable on all levels.
You cannot possibly mean that, so I'll assume it's a slightly obscure bit of improvised comedy. Ha.

... Nothing good has ever been improvised.

I know what you mean, but some expressions can be much improved by being improvised than they could be if they were fastidiously planned out - such as sex.
That's why it's called "improvisation", though I'm not sure how improvised this piece is.
Ugh, celebrating mediocrity - "improvisation". That's a no no. Nothing good has ever been improvised. Imagine Proust improvising. Double Ugh.

This is Jazz without question.
It's also fantastic.

I'm just not a big jazz fan. This sounds like chaotic elevator music to me. Maybe someone could show me the light?

Medeski, Martin and Wood by wnick87

Medeski Martin & Wood's live performances are renowned for their exploratory nature. Their concerts usually involve extended improvisations, which may be both arrhythmic and atonal, an aspect of their musicianship that is rarely documented in the studio. They also embark on an occasional acoustic tour, reverting back to the instrumentation that they began with.
Why I love them - MMW is one of the most unique jazz fusion bands of today. Their style is in a league of their own and their sounds are out of this world. Who needs a vocalist when you have an amazing keyboardist, bassist and drummer.

Copy that.
Still love it...
Me, too.
Still love it...
A splendid down-shift!
Still a good show, though.
I have to agree with you !
you're absolutely right!
adds a whole new level of depth to the song
love it
Basically i started for being, on 60´s, a "rock-listener", but i give particular attention when i discover that the talent flows, independent of the style, and when i discover this in other musical areas, classic-music, jazz, blues, folk, rytman-blues, country, opera, spiritual, folcore traditional, acoustic, celtic, fado, reggae, flamengo, african, world music, bossa-nova, soul, latin-american, tango-based, etc.; about how many to the styles appeared more recently, hip-hop, rap, trance-dance, house, and mix´s of DJ´s, etc, even so understands, i prefers not to comment, being to the criterion and taste of each one; to appreciate case the case.
for some important reason I listen carefully RP-Station and a competent team that is ahead, that make a difference in the world of music radio.
great success of this partnership in set of Mr. Medeski, Martin & Wood; here it exists talent and art- ** 8 **
i remember and i detach here "The Sparrow Quartet" is an American acoustic music group that formed in 2005. Its members include Abigail Washburn (banjo and voice), Béla Fleck (banjo), Casey Driessen (violin), and Ben Sollee (cello) (not avaiable, while group, in RP Station)
nice........
