Groovin' on a Sunday afternoon
Really couldn't get away too soon
I can't imagine anything that's better
The world is ours whenever we're together
There ain't a place I'd like to be instead of

Movin' down a crowded avenue
Doin' anything we like to do
There's always lots of things that we can see
You can be anyone we like to be
All those happy people we could meet

Just groovin' on a Sunday afternoon
Really couldn't get away too soon
No, no, no, no

''(Ah, ah, ah)
(Ah, ah, ah)
(Ah, ah, ah)''

We'll keep on spending sunny days this way
We're gonna talk and laugh our time away
I feel it coming closer day by day
Life would be ecstasy, you and me endlessly

Groovin' on a Sunday afternoon
Really couldn't get away too soon
No, no, no, no
Groovin', uh huh
Groovin'

I always wondered that too!!
They were the first concert I attended. It was at the Singer Bowl at the old NY Worlds Fair grounds in Flushing NY. Mountain was their opening act. Very fond memories. This is a perfect song to sit back and relax to on a warm summer evening. No auto tune or synths, just 4 guys who could sing,  play, and entertain without fireworks, profanity, or half a neighborhood jumping around behind them. And the tickets were probably under $10.00.
GREAT TUNE! ...eh  Leslie?

Too funny! Since 1967, I always thought they were singing "Leslie" too!  But, NO, check the lyrics!
Happiness!

I think it's fine as it is.  If it were to be recorded today it might be all quantized and "tuned" to a sterilizing extent.

I agree!! Totally!!

Great song. I think the bongos make it.

For me it was CKLC in Kingston. This and Get Together playing all summer.
Ah! What a set of feelings came over me, hearing this, so many years later. Simple pleasures. Thanks. Tom O’Grady

It is funny that you said that. I had just put on on my 40 yr old Sennheiser HD 414 headphones before this song came on! ...Classic!  ...Although I Am listening with FLAC, a Schiit Modi 3 DAC & a Schiit Magni 3+ amp!

Either way works, as far as I know.
Ah straw boater hats, punting on the lake, pretty girlls in summmer dreses, iced lemonade and mint juleps. I think I shall be sick. if i dont hear this for 70 years i may recover. PSD for me.

Stands the test of time. Sure made me smile for a place long ago and far away.

Learned the real words about two minutes ago by clicking on the Lyrics link.
I instantly feel like inviting some friends, set fire to the BBQ and open a bottle of wine.

Agree with a comment below. Some things belong on a small AM radio that's sitting in the sand next to a cooler full of ice and beverages.
Groovy!  ; )
some things are just perfect....
Summer as a child at the cottage and beach

I just heard an interview with the New Pornographers this morning on NPR.  This exact misheard lyric was part of the discussion.
"You and me and Leslie...."

{#Lol}  Yeah, that was one of those "groovy" illustration styles of the late 1960's.  It was done by an illustrator named Lynn Rubin, who apparently also did this cover:
Bar-Kays Soul Finger
Such a great classic summer song!
Great song but dear lord, that album art...
I've gotten to know Felix, the guy who wrote and perfomred this song. He now lives in the Nashville area, and all I can say is that both he and his song are classy and age well. Felix has written alot of nice tunes.
Surprising that it doesn't sound dated at all. In HS I called this the "menage a trois" song..."that would be ecstasy, you and me and Leslie..."
Absolute classic!
The Rascals just keep getting better and better over the years/decades. Can\'t explain it. Just mellow beyond words.
Simple and pure.
