This is the Michael Wood remix - radio edit .. the full one is over 10 minutes long and is incredible as well, though this one gets to the point in a different and pleasing way. Nice to hear this on here ... over 25 years later!

This is the truncated version - the original, which is 8.46 mins long, really 'let's rip'.  Find it, crank up the volume, get your glow sticks out and PARTY!

Having recently discovered RP and previously wore blinkers and focussing on blues/rock, this track came up the other week and I've been trying to source it ever since. Trying to obtain it is taking a fare chunk out of my state pension. Can I claim to be an old fart? Music has no boundaries and can be loved by all ages.

...now i've spent the past hour digging around for this michael woods ambient mix, and still can't find a credible CD anywhere offered for sale...  :(

I've been trying to source it as well. Just posted about my efforts.
Hi, my first post within this forum. This track hit me hard the other day when I first heard it. I'm trying to source a copy of it. Please forgive my ignorance, but there appears to be numerous CD's featuring this title. I have found a version titled '97 mix, but cant find the version with this artwork and dated 2003. If any listener has this cd that the station is playing, I'd love to know the record label etc so I can source this exact track RP is playing. There is a copy of it on a well known internet seller whose name is the same matches a large rain forest, but when the cd is bought, the buyer gets the '97 mix. I dont know if the items are the same, I dont think so. It would help me if I knew the recording label and number etc for a cd copy. Thank you all in anticipation. I'm no expert in trance, so please be gentle, I just enjoyed the sound and want to have my own copy of it..... UPDATE....... I tried my best to get the details of this track played on RP. No luck. Seems odd that it is listed here on RP as having a duration of 3.45. I have obtained the cd which has this artwork, Radikal Records RAD99173-2. None of the 8 tracks on the cd are of that duration! So despite trying to ID the track played by RP, I am still at a loss as to where it has been released. The Energy 52 single cd titled Remix '97 is on Labels LC3098/724389427721. The 2 tracks on the cd single have durations of 3.52 and 3.42. I'm posting this update to try and help anyone else who may be trying to source their own copy of the track being played by RP. Good luck! UPDATE 2.......... Still trying to source the track played by RP and having read the comments about the track being the Ambient Mix by Michael Woods, I've sourced a 3 track cd single on 'Lost Language recordings', LOST019CD dated 2002 which has its track 3 as 'Michael Woods ambient mix', this version though is 9mins 20secs in duration. It is utterly superb and is SO soothing. I've given up my search to source what RP plays, this last version more than does the job.  I hope this information helps others. Such a shame the wrong artwork is being displayed. I have mentioned this to RP and can do no more. Thanks to all who have submitted comments over the years.
It's just too ruddy short of a proper rave.
Yay, I'm a pill popping 20yr old in Blighty again for a few minutes...
Love a bit of ambient trance me
This is not the same mix as used to be played here. It is shorter and lacks the build-up of the previous one.

Edit: pretty certain that it was the Michael Woods Ambient Mix.
Suprised to hear mild trance music here on RP.
The only music I managed to produce during my teens. This mix is a bit boring and I don't like the new age sound effects, but that aside cool for RP to play this.

The original is by Kid Paul (Harald Bluchel), as mentioned earlier. The credit goes to Energy 52 (as that is the alias he used at the time) and the song is indeed called Cafe Del Mar. This ambient remix here is done by Michael Woods who has done a number of ambient remixes like this. Michael Woods served as Matt Darey's engineer for a number of years (hence all the rich atmospherics in both this and Darey's work) and is also known for some trance numbers on his own.

Actually to really go back to the roots of this song, you need to go to ‘Struggle for Pleasure’ by Wim Mertens, which this is based on.
Overrated, even with an 1.
And nothing is more overrated than Ibiza and it's clubbing scene. {#Hand}
...hmmmm, not bad at all.

Thought I'd turned Zoolook on by mistake there...
This makes me happy every time I hear it.
Alpinestars, Ozzy and now this! My good friends there at the Radio Paradise Institute, I salute you.

Going back and listening I reckon the flip-side 'Cosmic Baby's Impressions' is the better remix. Funny how time changes things. {#Roflol}

Actually just found the best though.... 'Porte de Bagnolet' mix. There have been countless remixes but this from '93 captures the spirit and drive the most.

Dear Bill & Rebecca,
With respect may i ask if you could please play the DJ Kid Paul remix of Cafe Del Mar, at some point, for us happy few who like that version.

Wow this is unexpected. I used to DJ a much more kicking version of this tune back in the early 90's. I guess this is some kind of chill-out yoga remix. {#Cheesygrin}

Call it a trance or call it sublime - either way, it was not good music to have in the background when trying to get some work done.
Takes me back to the flouro fluffy days in the early 90's in London town. I still have this on vinyl, in mint condition tucked away in the basement. Might have to dig it out this weekend! Thanks RP
Knowing so many other versions, can't help feeling like this is one long bout of foreplay. Just waiting for it to kick in....

Cafe Del Mar is a cafe on the beach in Ibiza. I have never been there, but it's my understanding that they are a chill bar where beautiful people focus on watching the sun set and listening to chill music. They also release compilations of this music under the Cafe Del Mar label. (click here) Ah, a little wikipedia confirms this (click here)

don't know if this is a remix. The original is from Cosmic Baby aka Harald Bluechel and Kid Paul (click here) click english then discography and scroll down a bit till you find Energy 52. I translated the website recently and there was this bit of text in there about the track:
Audiofile 14 – Energy 52: Cafe del Mar ("Cafe del Mar", 1993 to 2004 ) The background: I met Paul Schmitz-Moormann in 1989. A close friendship developed centred around non-stop music-making. From Paul I learned how to combine high-quality melodic material with rhythm sections in a way that was both transparent and effective and gave the compositions a clear structure. In return, I was a kind of contemporary "piano teacher" for Paul. In 1990 we spent some time together on Ibiza. We got some really good vibes in a white villa on the beach where we spent the evenings, the "Cafe del Mar". November 1992: Paul returns after an especially long summer holiday on Ibiza. At "Cafe del Mar" he had heard a solo piano composition that had made a big impression on him. I know the piece, it is from Wim Mertens, one of my favorite composers. In the coming weeks we dedicate ourselves as though inspired by a greater force to our own version of this masterpiece working minutely on every little detail until it feels right. In January we produce the two originals ("Kid Paul Mix" and "Cosmic Baby's Impression") in the studio in cooperation with Jens.
Hope that helps!
This is too cool for words. While in Matala, Crete a couple years ago heard this number often while collecting intense sunrays lying on the beach. Have been wondering ever since where it came from and now I know. Thanks to RP...
Is this Moby's Brother?
Okay, I discovered on Amazon.com that "Ministry of Sound" are compliation CDs. Not only that, a track called "Cafe del Mar" wasn't even on the CD pulled up when I clicked on the "Buy from Amazon.com" link. So then I searched for any "Cafe del Mar" on Amazon.com... and got a ton more compilation CDs back~!@#!@$!~@~ Does ANYONE know where or how this track (whatever it is called and by whatever group made it) can be found?? I was just previewing the CD (clicking on Amazon.com's own music sampler) and found that the tracks returned in the Amazon.com player became "disjointed" after the first CD - the player track listing didn't even match the Amazon.com track listing. However I scanned the player's listing and again found no "Cafe del Mar" - nor heard anything like what the track on RP sounded like.

Total agreement here. This fits the genre "electronica" perfectly. It is a bit more amospheric than is usual - but not quite fitting in the "ambient" genre. Pure bliss. I need to buy the album now so I can have an extended session of relief from the tensions of work!

Ditto, mate. When I heard this, I thought I was listening to a really long intro. Then the blips started and I was thinking "well, a great beat's gotta follow." Alas, it really is just like a really long intro to, well, nothing. Yes, I realize ambient techno isn't really supposed to have a driving beat, but I have heard songs in the genre that don't sound like aural wallpaper for tripping.
This is indeed outstanding. I started to listen to ambient around 94-95, wasn't easy to come by then. Though this genre was quickly establishing itself in the electronic arena of music. More of this please... How about some Future Sound of London.... Ixion wrote:
