I think I have the best of me
Inside my head
No one else competes with me
I think I'm great
Got spirit tucked away inside
I know the ghosts of angel notes to kiss
Everything I sing is part of this
Got honey brushed across my lips
I know, I know, I know, I know
If you can call this luck
If you can call this luck
If you can miss this much
Eat my dust you insensitive fuck
Eat my dust you insensitive fuck
Eat my dust
Inside my head
No one else competes with me
I think I'm great
Got spirit tucked away inside
I know the ghosts of angel notes to kiss
Everything I sing is part of this
Got honey brushed across my lips
I know, I know, I know, I know

Eat my dust

Great track, certainly very Talk Talk
Love and miss this band. I was fortunate to see them live, though it was when they were kind of petering out (Wishville era). Always happy to hear them on RP or anywhere else. I really like Rob Dickinson's voice.
Mathew 10:14 comes to mind for me.. time to move on. Great song
I'll stick with Black Metallic.
Bill Withers thinks it needs a few more "I Know" verses thrown in there.

Bill, can you play another one off this album?
PS. Yes, I hear The The in this harmonica, too...
Simply awesome... One of the many fantastic introductions by Bill to my sheltered little African existence.

Well, I think one Talk Talk is more than enough.

"Well spotted. The man responsible for that brilliant harmonica sound is Mark Feltham, who indeed appeared on the Talk Talk albums Colour of Spring, Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock. He has worked with lots of artists, such as Oasis, Tom Jones, Joan Armatrading, Deacon Blue, Texas, The Christians, Texas, The The, Rory Gallagher, Dido, Joe Cocker and The Everly Brothers. No one produces a finer souding harmonica, as far as I'm concerned."
Thanks, informative!

Big Catherine Wheel fan going back in the early 90s. Saw them in '92. This one made it on to many mix tapes for friends. First time hearing it on RP! More CW please!

Would have sworn this to be late Talk Talk, if it wasn't for the voice...

Why do people inflict this kind of cacophony upon themselves? Must be karmic debt, childhood shame or hearing impairment.
I like the song. And I like the title (not the truncated version shown here)!
8 -> 9
I can play harmonica like that LOL.

Wow, thanks for the info! I used to have this album—I imagine it's still in storage somewhere. Nice tune for sure. The The also did some harmonica stuff at the same time—was a brief but cool trend in alternative music.

Harmonica reminds me of a Talk Talk track...
Sounds good to me--love that harp. (Or "saxophone," as the case may be.)
Actually, I appreciate the ironic incongruity. . . it awakens and connects different parts of my brain which seem to have never met before. . .
Somebody been spiking your tofu, Capt. The two songs are not even remotely comparable.

And the problem is? The counterpoint of the lyrics and music serves to make it more intriguing. As another example, Steely Dan uses some devious lyrics with often sunny melodies; the juxtaposition works.

Eat my 6 for the harmonica on overdrive.
This is unintentionally extra clever. To eat one's six, in aeronautical terms, flyboy terms, is to eat one's ass.
"The saxaphone at the end of the song is the only thing that saves it."
What about the bagpipes and the 23 marching girls? Didn't you think they worked?
CaptTofu wrote:

Also produced by Tim Friese-Greene. That doesn't save it, though.
horstman wrote:

saxaphone?
not only did you spell it wrong, it's not even what you're hearing.
but your obviously informed opinion is duly noted...
Wow, This is right out of Talk Talk "Spirit of Eden"!
Eat my 6 for the harmonica on overdrive.

sounds like Elbow to me....
That's what I thought. But downerer.
I really like Catherine Wheel and their dark, brooding musical style. But this song really is off their mark from both a creative (lack thereof) and intellectual level. The statement/intent of the song is weak and over dramatized. The saxaphone at the end of the song is the only thing that saves it.
It's okay to be miserable without being insufferable and insulting.
Solid 2.

Love that harp. Is that typical of the band? I don't know 'em. . . .
Definite echoes of Talk Talk (for reasons I'm sure everyone here is too knowledgeable for me to have to say).

Yep. With a touch of Genesis.
I think it's growing on me. Hmm.
My. What a potty mouth. Sounds like junior high all over again. I'm glad I out-grew the lack of vocabulary. And there are much better songs on this disc.
Lyrics and music are utterly incongruous.
Someone may have already noted this, but I can't find the lyrics online anywhere. All sites say they were removed at the artists' request.
I just realized the album cover is a baby crib from a weird perspective; I thought it was some sort of platform supported by colorful bungees.

This has a Ron Howard theme to it. Eat My Dust was the first movie he directed. They ought to have a song on this CD called Sit on It.
