And when she feeds the flowers
Up they rise their pretty little heads
And when she waters them
They glow and smirk and smile in their beds
And in a globe of frogs, they're making love and looking on
And in a globe of frogs, they're making love and moving on

And when she walks across the floorboards
How they creak and ooze and moan(I want you)
And when she walks across the floorboards
They're so glad she's on her own
And in a globe of frogs, we lie on sack and moving on?
And in a globe of frogs, we lie on dark and saying

"Mrs. Watson, all your children have been certified insane
And I want you."

And when the night comes down
The houses close their doors and dream of her
Their shuttered eyes are closed
Inside their curtains wrap around her form
And in a globe of frogs, we're linking tongues and moving on
And in a globe of frogs, you know what's right, you know it

"Mrs. Watson, you've been certified as good as gold
And I want you
Yeah, I want you."

Ain't you never seen a disembodied soul before?
Ain't you never seen a soul seeking incarnation in formation?

And when she feeds the fish
They flip and jerk and wriggle in the pond (I want you)
And when she hands them things
They all perk up and nibble on her thumb
And in a globe of frogs, the moth unfurls its moistened wings
And in a globe of frogs, a soul appears, the word made flesh

I was going to say that Robyn Hitchcock hasn't aged well but this came out in 1990. In the 70s he was interesting for what seemed like a permanent sneer that fit in with the style of the day. Agree with another comment that this isn't his best work... Would work better coming in at 2:50 than 4:09, lol.
Ive seen that album cover take form just out of the dancefloor of an outdoor Psytrance party once upon a long time
Well... this is.. umm .. interesting...
well it made me look to see what it was. That much I can say thanks for . But not one for me...
this is excellent.

perhaps a little off beat but still 100x better than Counting Crows and John Cougar.
First time hearing, liked a lot, but probably wouldn’t play on repeat
On the bass, Derek Smalls. He wrote this.
Damn! Still love disliking this song. Defo on my Fave List.
This was more amusing the first five times. Now it's just a PSD.

I wish I had the foggiest idea what this was about, but I'm probably better off not knowing.

I think it's great, though, thanks RP.
Not much to comment on the song here (apart from it being pretty bizarre)... but as a female with the same first name (albeit spelled in the traditionally male or neutral way) I bet I can relate to the number of people who probably misspell his name on a regular basis.
Very 60's vibe.  reminds me of Eric burden.
Evidence that, if you were tripping that hard, you should just rip up what whatever masterpiece you think you wrote.
Faux-retro and just plain bad.
Time flies when you’re having fun, or as the frog said “time is fun when your having flies “🐸
I thought it was Syd Barrett...
What fun images,
intriquing, intelligent,
overly egoic Not
Merci
The first time, I thought this was funny. The second time I thought it was curious. After that, it just gets annoying.
I love Robyn's stuff, but this is not one of his strongest pieces, this album alone has better songs.

There's plenty of alt-country and western on this station.

There's also a fair bit of hip-hop adjacent music (Gorillaz, RJD2, DJ Shadow, etc).

EXPAND YOUR HORIZONS, IT'S AMAZING OUT HERE!

I do. But in general I do not prefer those I listed. My horizons are expanded thank you.
I guess I'm surprised at the low rating cuz this band is so cool.  Highly underrated IMO.  Thank you for playing, Bill.  Long Live RP!!!! and the diverse listeners who disagree.
Served with well prepared of frog legs this tune might work its way up to a 4 from me.
Just Ho-Hum 3

Quite a few negative opinions, and that's okay.  I only wish listeners could articulate better and say "I find this boring" instead of "this is boring" or "this sucks."  Clearly, RH is a more-than-solid talent based on his longevity, his cult following, and his influence on the music industry.  Thanks, Bill, for pushing away from classic-rock playlists, which leads to songs that some or all of us don't always like.

I think by the fact that we are all here listening to RP attests at least to the majority being open minded about all genres of music (except rap, country and hip hop of course).  A few "This sucks!" are acceptable.

In other words, "Happy to see that I conform."  Many types of music are not for everyone, and isn't that GREAT!
Thank you for playing this estimable off-beat and unique musician. I appreciate that the ratings by those who (mysteriously to me) dislike him so much are not taken as anything more than the complaints of those whose ears and minds are not collaborating to enjoy this. I saw him for the first time at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in San Francisco last October and would recommend him as a performer. We need the perspectives of those whose views of what matters and how to interpret this are out of the mainstream.

this might be one of the first 5's I've ever rated.  (and I almost went lower) was happy to see after I posted that that I was right in line with others here....wow
Wow. wtf
And I thought Balloon Man was a weird song!
I like Robyn Hitchcock but can't say that this is memorable{#Undecided}.

That's some weird shit right there.
Twice already this year, and that's twice too much.

This brings new meaning to the word awful.

Me too.
Well, it was quite the show. Top notch. He played so much from the back catalog, playing requests submitted to his website and the new album too of course. He gripped n' grinned and conversed with fans after the show until closing. The Kessler in Dallas is so small the only thing that would put you closer to the performer is if they were sitting in your living room.
Unique and well done.

Well, I invoked Syd in my comment on Feb 2016.

I think Robyn is a groovy amalgam of Syd, Sir Paul, and a touch of Bob Dylan.

Not bad!
this is one of those songs an artist really really regrets even recording
Well, I'll find out how his acouctic tour is doing here in Dallas tomorrow night. I've seen him numerous times before when I lived in DC back in the 80's but that was a different time. He never changes much.
My goodness, this is TRULY AWFUL!
have to be honest Bill....usually never complain about your playlist....but this one...gotta be dropped from the cycle...Thanks Bill!  I give it a solid 2.5 rating

So 3 isn't too bad considering you don't like anything about it then... :)
So trippy! {#High-five} And the following lyrics have a certain resonance these days in the U.S., don't they?

"And in a globe of frogs, we lie on dark and saying
'Mrs. Watson, all your children have been certified insane.'"

Hard to tap my foot to this one.
Holy, quite a varied response to this one.
I quite like the tune, made me look to see what was playing so that means something, for me at least.
This is why I have been listening for so many years.
Stretching the boarders.
I sure wish the general public had larger ears.

OK, smarty. How many times is too many? This is a serious question, although your glib pronouncement suggests that you think otherwise. What is the correct answer to the question how much acid is enough? Slightly more than too much.
How has nobody mentioned a Syd Barrett influence since 2003?
Only gets a 3 from me.  Don't like the lead vocal, the lyrics, the music, or anything else.
Madder'n a treeful of monkeys.  I like it a lot.
Not my fav, but I'll take any Robyn I can get. He is fantastic.
This is not doing anything for me.
Mrs. Watson, all your children have been certified insane
Mrs. Watson, you've been certified...as good as gold...
And I want you.

Robyn = McCartney + Barrett

I like this record a lot. However, after hearing this song, I gotta let this hen out!
Never heard this before. Like it, pretty trippy

One guy who has blatantly tripped a few times too many...
I'm liking this one. It's different and compelling.
BOOORing
Robyn is great. He's fantastic live, go and see him. I gave this a 10 just to make the overall rating go up, really it's a 7.
Like an automobile accident. Horrible, yet oddly fascinating... I can't turn away.
Not played since '04, and it should've stayed gone.
this is awful......
Well, this track has not held up well. Peee -- Yooooo!

This is one of my favorite Robyn Hitchcock songs. I know he's odd, that's part of his deep charm. But sometimes nothing else will do. It's medicine music, like Tom Waits and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan are to me. Good for an ailing soul. I love the fact that his lyrics sometimes make no sense whatsoever, that he just picks a word that rhymes and throws it in just to keep the song churning just right.

Wouldn't want to live on a planet with no Robyn Hitchcock. I remember seeing him years ago on a short-lived talk show hosted by Alan Havey. They were talking about popular music, and Robyn said his daughter listened to "industrial" music and the like. Then he said he couldn't complain because "That's probably what I'd be listening to if I were alive today." I always liked that quote.
I don't get it. Am I alive? Are you alive. How dod I get here? MY GOD!...WHAT HAVE I DONE?
This guy is not merely tone deaf, a poor singer, or a semi-singer. He is a nonsinger attempting to sing. Next to him, Robert Plant sounds melodious. Put duct tape over his mouth and spare us more. :-$ <-( :-#

reminds me of syd barrett. why haven't i heard any solo syd barrett on rp? hmmm...someone should UPLOAD that!
One of the great under-rated artists of the 80's
Hey, play \"Balloon Man\" off this CD too!!!
God-awful
I like it, very different!
I hadn\'t heard R.H. before - but I *really* like this song! May have to go out and buy if all his stuff is as lyric-quirky and tuneful... :D (Is \"globe of frogs\" a reference to an Escher print?)

I've actually been fortunate enough to see Robyn perform in concert. He is unique and irreplaceable.
Reminds me a bit of \"legendary pink dots\". Any of the same artists? Anybody who knows

Myrrh is right about this, y'all. Nothing below a 6!
this song takes me back to what the 1980s? Pretty awesome.. light and airy
Boy, I am not a fan of this - yuck.
I thought my telephone was ringing but it was the harmonica on this song (I\'m not joking).
