It seems, it seems there's nothing
That you couldn't do
With a drink inside of you
Is there nothing
You'd not do
With a drink in you?
I've always known
That you felt the pain
And it had to start to show
It'd driven you insane
I could lie, but I can't
'Cause you know it's so
You tell me, you say
"I walk in fire, you walk in fire"
You're not free till you
Walk in fire, I walk with fire, I walk in fire
You've always been
A loose cannon, gone
And the way you were back then
You'd take on anyone
It takes years to accept it all
And to be yourself
You tell me, you say
"I walk in fire, you walk in fire"
You're not free till you
Walk in fire, I walk with fire, you walk in fire
On and on and day by day
We fool ourselves we ain't the same
Everyone who stayed away
Man I always felt your pain
On and on I tell myself
Fool ourselves we ain't the same
Everyone who stayed away
Man I always felt your pain
You tell me, you say
"You walk in fire, you walk in fire"
You're not free till you
You walk in fire, walk with fire, walk in fire

You've heard one Doves song, you've heard them all, really.

A bit of an endless drone to this song - doesn't hold my attention - maybe a 5 for me - and usually I like the Doves.

That "oo000OOO000ooo" sound reminds me of the id monster in the movie "Forbidden Planet". I do like that id monster—it scared the hell outa me, in widescreen. However, this song... Ouch.

Awesome song!
I received an email from the band today. Looks like a new album is on the way!
Hello
Just wanted to start by letting you all know we've finally finished our new album & after a week of compiling the track order & other details I can confirm we're all made up with it, we reckon its our most diverse record yet. Looking forward to it being out there for people to listen to(will be released sometime in April)
We're also looking forward to being released from our doves bunker & to being fully integrated back into society & playing live again. Lots of gigs are being planned for 2009,just the u.k & the u.s at the moment, but we are hoping to go further a field too. Also, keep your eyes peeled for our new website over the next couple of weeks.
As always thanks for you're patience & support ,
We will be seeing you soon

Not their best work, definitely representative of them (that's my nice way of saying it sounds like a lot of their other stuff), still a decent track. I'm off to their website to see what they're up to...

Stay safe, Bill! That's a big fire!
I don't see how this cool song only gets a 6.1, even if the rhythm section SO owes money to Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr.

I love this song! Actually, I'm song neutral on this one...just wanted a reaction!
I don't like this song...
Hey! This is Laura Palmer's tune! ;-)
Cedar Room is the best. This one is good too.

What? You don't hear them on Clear Channel?
I'd never heard of Doves until I found RP, and this was the first song by them I'd ever heard. So it holds a special place - I liked it then and I like it now. Bought the CD, got The Last Broadcast, too.
I won't be spanking them anytime soon like a lot of folks around here are doing.
There Goes The Fear was a superb, possibly even transcendent song. This is a pale regurgitation of a formula that worked very well once, and now just sounds a bit stale. Doves are talented, they just need to branch out a bit and get some new sounds.
mojoman wrote:

Yeah, this album is quite a comedown from their previous work.
Oh, My Lord,it's Doves!!

ahem, that would be the effects, but I guess that just proves your point, and I agree: it's a boring song!
This is a great reincarnation/advancement of the classic 60's 70' jam/art rock formula. I bow. Dig-it uhhh. Dig-it.!!!!!!!!!!!

That sums it up quite nicely.
Nice transition from Dandy Warhols - Godless
"What Matters Most Is How Well You Walk Through the Fire" ~ Charles Bukowski ~
I'm sure he'd agree though these guys didn't walk so "Well" throught the fire.
Kind of hoping this would end. And IT seems to go on forever. boring.

On this tune: The Alarm meets "Northern Exposure".
Will it never end?
this also rocks
This gets an 8 for the opening lyrics,
"seems there's nothing you can't do,
with a drink inside of you."
Honesty is number one in my book!
Love the Doves!

Oh, I LOVE Snowden. This one is a little lackluster. But I really do like the Doves a great deal. Doves and Decemberists are two of my favorite discoveries.
Hey Bill! A Decemberists tune would go nicely next, wouldn't it?
Thoroughly mediocre. Would give it four-and-a-half if that were possible.
Good song from a good CD. Nothing spectacular (although I do love the theremins on "Snowden"), but all in all worth the money.
Sounds like all smoke and no fire to me.
Doves are great, when they're on form, but I'd have to agree that this is one of their more formulaic, unexceptional numbers. There are far better songs on this album.
One word comes to mind listening to this song--boring.
What does a song like this have to offer that hasn't been done and overdone?
Golly

I just saw this band in Carrboro, and I wasn't impressed. FYI, the opening band, Longwave, from NYC, was FAR superior. Doves Disappointed.
I love Doves, but this isn't their best song or best album. Don't crucify them til you hear their other music, like "The Last Broadcast" as the previous poster notes. That's a brilliant album.

I can see how people think they're just another rip off band, but I don't think so. They have very well written lyrics and although their sound is similar to that of U2's, it is very distinct.
"The Last Broadcast" is also a very well produced album that just flows great, there are even a couple filler tracks on it (they are about a minute long each) that provide flow between some of the songs.

They have a great sound that they created, this album really seems more of the same though, not much more innovation.

I've liked the other Doves songs I've heard, but not this one.
:headshake:
There are too many things going on in a bad way...the incessant drums, guitars, and then the poor vocals which might have been stunning otherwise.
Snowden will be coming along sometime in the near future. :nodhead:
I believe this song promotes a dangerous pastime in which no radio paradise listener should be encouraged to take part. Please end the needless loss of lives and stop this masochistic propaganda.

not feeling it at all. :(
Come on RP, of all the songs on Some Cities, this is one of the last I'd pick. Why play Walk In Fire when you have songs like Snowden, The Storm, One of these Days and Sky Starts Falling? This song in particular is one of the weakest on the album...
'There Goes the Fear II'?
How's the rest o' the album? I sure liked the last one...it's a permanent addition to my MP3 player. And I don't get the comparisons to U2 at all, sorry.
Likeable tune.

Well, U2 have kinda started just imitating themselves, so if another band can imitate them better, so be it.
Even though you're wrong. There's some influence there, sure, but not ripping off.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but the early part of this song always reminds me of "Suspicious Minds."

I agree, though I still can't get away from thinking it's the drums that give them their signature. And I like how the production pretty consistently keeps them out front.

Ditto. Already tempted to say I like it more than Last Broadcast, which I think is an outstanding album.
I think the songs on this album are a lot more subtle than The Last Broadcast, which I would attribute to the songsmithy functioning at a higher bar. The band should be getting better at their style, so they should produce a better album.
I loved The Last Broadcast and Lost Souls - they are amongst my favorite albums of all time. This album reminds me more and more of Lost Souls. IMO, they took a very minimal approach to the guitar work, it sort of takes a backseat to the overall conception of the songs. I love it when a band tries to throw off their fanbase a little.
