There is some irony in this whole chain in that of the two Paul's, it is Ron who is more the real libertarian.  I am thinking that the couple of remaining libertarians still here at RP are not happy that Rand is being called a libertarian as he is not considered to be a real libertarian, by real libertarians.  Rand gives the brand a bad name and is an embarrassment and is usually used (as in the case here) to tarnish the brand.

There is a saying among libertarians: you're not a Real Libertarian until another libertarian has told you you aren't a Real Libertarian.

Rand Paul is a Republican. He's on the libertarian fringe of the Republican party but he's trying mightily to maintain his credibility (and influence, and viability) within that group. I can't tell which Rand Paul is the real one; he has done too many good things (against fierce opposition) to dismiss but done too much Trump toadying to embrace.

Movements are made of actual people, not archetypes. Real people are package deals, fallible and self-interested and subject to pressures and motivations those of us far away will never understand. He could take a harder, less-compromising line like his father did, or House members Thomas Massie and Justin Amash have, but look what that got them. Ron Paul built a movement that may one day prevail, but it cost him dearly and he won't live to see it come to fruition.

Amash left the Republican party and congress. He's doing great things for us but he isn't catapulting to stardom. Massie...well, I'll let him tell you about it.

You pretend to be unaware of Rand Paul's infamous votes against federal aid after disasters, couldn't parse the simple Ron/Rand error in RD's original post. You're immortalizing something alright.

No I don't know of his infamous votes against federal aid after disasters, except for the one for Hurricane Sandy, which in that case I agree with, and that is only because there was more pork in it than actual relief.

You can believe me or not.  I have not paid much attention to relief bills and the votes on them, again other than Sandy.  They almost always go through, complete with unrelated pork.  Got other more important things I pay attention to.

Regarding the bill he just blocked referenced below by haresfur, I disagree with his action on that, completely.  That makes him a putz (at the very least) in my book.

Back to you.

Oh, and RD is still a putz.  Maybe if he tried a little harder to say what he means when he is not rewriting headlines for his links it would help, but that will likely never happen, and there was no link attached to his statement like there usually is.  He causes his own problems.

Yes.  Do you have specific examples ?

U.S. Senate blocks $1.1 billion ‘Hurricane Aid Act’

The bill would provide $1.1 billion in disaster relief to areas recovering from Hurricanes Laura, Delta and Zeta, according to the act.

According to the act, the aid would be paid for using revenue from the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) spectrum auction last year.

Also Hurricane Sandy, Hurricane Maria, Hurricane Harvey.

In 2019, he also voted against a bill that appropriated $17.2 billion in disaster relief funding to several federal agencies. The bill ultimately passed, with 85 senators voting in its support, while former President Donald Trump signed it into law (Newsweek).

Invent things? It was a question. A question you didn't answer.

After I politely stated how I thought it was interesting that Ron Paul was asking for federal aid for Kentucky

I politely asked the question to red dragon, not you or anyone else ...

 kurtster wrote:

and have yet to receive either an explanation or an answer from red dragon.

Instead you jumped in to his rescue with your own thoughts and explanations for what you think he meant, yet did not not even hint at and still has not with his now corrected statement.

 Red_Dragon wrote:

I am supposed to know the point he is trying to make ?

So he told you privately so you could come to his rescue ?

Or is it that great minds think alike ?

So I asked you the same type of question you asked me.  A known literary device used when encountering arguments such as the one you are trying to make with me out of thin air.

"When Did You Stop Beating Your Wife?"

red dragon is clueless to that based upon his response to it.  I think you know better though, right ?

Meanwhile red dragon still gets left of the hook and does not have to explain why he brought up Rand Paul asking for federal aid for Kentucky out of the blue because of your pointless argument.
